Newark, NJ – Established in 1886, Thibaut Wallcoverings is the nation’s oldest continuously operating wallcovering firm and is well-known for its hand-printed murals and historic reproduction and adaptation wallcoverings and fabrics. Historically, fine Thibaut wallpapers have graced the walls of historic buildings and museums across the country, like the Rockwood Museum in Wilmington, DE; the Kinderhook, NY “Lindenwald” retirement residence for Martin van Buren, eighth President of the United States; the Lincoln Theater in Washington, DC; and the Cummington, MA estate of William Cullen Bryant, America’s first internationally known poet, author of “Thanatopsis.” Perhaps one of the most notable displays of Thibaut wallcoverings dates back to the 1960’s when President Lyndon Johnson addressed the nation on TV from his Texas ranch house--for two hours he sat at his desk in his home office, and there, behind him on the wall was Thibaut’s “Memory Lane” mural, which was, and still is, the best-selling mural in the history of the company.

Thibaut’s “Murals” series has been around for over 40 years. The current “Murals Vol. 6” collection features a variety of hand-printed scenics, including a picturesque New England waterfront, a fox hunt scene, a southern mansion, beautiful wisteria flowers, Roman columns, a charming country road, garden images reminiscent of impressionistic paintings, elegant Chinoiserie, and wonderful examples of trompe l’oeil. The hand-screen reproduction of the designs creates the artistic beauty normally found in hand-painted murals.

Decorating with murals can help add a view to a windowless room, visually enlarge a small space, or simply add elegant, artistic touches to any interior. The murals can be used as a single image, continue on to a second wall, or go clear around a room. The Thibaut collection includes eleven murals and three background textured designs. For further versatility, each mural is offered in several color schemes. The murals are strippable, pre-trimmed and washable.

Thibaut collections are available nationally through designers and fine wallcovering and decorating retail outlets. For the names of local retailers, call 800-223-0704.
