Newark, NJ – Damask wallpaper, a traditional
decorating favorite, is enlivened with color and innovative treatments of woven effects,
aged finishes, and dramatically rescaled designs in Thibaut’s new “Damask
Resource Volume II.” The collection features a variety of designs ranging
from the classics to creative interpretations. This latest Damask compilation is
part of Thibaut’s special “Resource” series, in which the Thibaut
studio explores a particular design style and develops an array of patterns with varying
colors, sizes, and techniques, bound into one large, convenient volume. These
collections are helpful for designers and consumers alike.
Striking designs include “Manhattan Damask” and “Fortune
Damask.” “Manhattan Damask” is an elegant, large-scale
design fashioned after an 18th century woven document. The design has
a “worn” look that mimics the texture of coarse spun-silk fabric.
“Fortune Damask” also takes on a fabric-like appearance, but with
more refined texture. The pattern incorporates two effects—a woven-looking
foreground and a stippled background, which together create the appearance of a
luxurious silk and satin blend. These two grand-scale patterns are also
offered as fabrics. The fabrics work well for draperies, bedding, and
accent pillows. “Fortune Damask” is a heavier
woven material, suitable for furniture and other applications.
“Antonelli,” a branching floral design, has a Jacobean
feel with large, stylized blossoms, berries, and flower buds.
Texture effects in “Terrazo Damask” are even more
detailed, with fine, engraved lines providing depth and grandeur to the scrollwork.
With youthful style and a delicate embroidered look, ”Marella
Damask” features dainty scrolling lines over a soft strie
background. “Adler Damask,” a neoclassic
design, has a textured appearance that resembles granite, with acanthus
leaves framing a metallic-tone medallion. Based on a neoclassic
19th century French document, “Laurel Damask” is a mid-scale
design with interlacing framework presented in a painterly, impressionist
style. “Sanibel,” a large-scale vertical design with
exotic plam trees, overlays a grasscloth-textured ground. The wide
columns of palms are offset by “stripes” of latticework
framing tiny images of tropical fruit and foliage.
These and other innovative designs are featured in a fresh array of
colors such as mineral blue, aqua, coffee bean, pearl, evergreen, pumpkin,
melon, celery, indigo, and topaz. Vibrant eggplant and flamingo
pink are also found in two designs. Many patterns incorporate
metallic gold, brushed nickel, and copper.
