A Mix of Vintage and Modern Flair in The Wild Flora Collection by Anna French

Apr 2008

Anna French introduces the Wild Flora Collection, a gorgeous vintage floral collection printed

in the UK that pushes the boundaries of document designs with printing techniques on foils and textured nonwoven

papers. Traditional designs are given a modern twist with mirrored flowers, white on white prints, and a

tarnished metallic effect that resembles a Venetian palace mirror.

The floral Bouquet is taken from a luscious printed linen from France. Printed with 12 colours, this is the

most complex design in the collection. Surface printing allows the colours to overlap around the edges,

creating a blossoming effect. Pink and blue colourways show this design in its full multi-coloured traditional

glory and the turquoise colour has a foil flower silhouette that mirrors any hue reflected in it.

A surface printed design, Damask is offered on a few mica backgrounds that give it a hidden dimension

revealed only when the light hits the wallpaper at a certain angle. Purple and brown colouring with its water

paint look allows the underneath colour to glow through. One of Anna’s favourites is Bird in the Bush

including its thick surface printing and refl ective qualities from true metal foils. Anna uses delicate touches of

colour to give this traditional branching floral a warm, old block print look. The white on white colour creates a

great effect with slight variations subtly unveiling the design that looks remarkable with an Anna French classic

white lace.

Songbirds is an elegant floral design taken from a document that Anna used to create an arts and crafts

style lace. Award-winning Songbirds on a foil background resembles a tarnished Venetian palace mirror. The

grey on white colour creates a pencil-rendered effect to complement Songbirds lace.

Playful scenes are depicted in Girl on a See Saw with boys offering a bird to a young lady sitting on a see

saw. A colourway of cream on a silver foil provides extra depth and dimension, transforming this vintage

document. Areas of the toile design have a flash of pearlescent finish, providing it a three-dimensional

appearance as light bounces off the design.

Sunny and refreshing, Ash is a cheery, graphic floral silhouette. With colours ranging from black and white,

to a brilliant pink with metallic gold flowers, the design expresses Anna’s eclectic sense of design and colour.

Spot is a modern geometric design with shiny, reflective spots on matte foil which is fantastic for walls and

looks especially chic on ceilings. The design has a three-dimensional feature, with each spot reflecting a

different tone in the room.

A graphic, scrolling floral with a hip vertical layout is best seen in Velvet Jacquard. Anna loved the design

and produced it in three fl ock wallpapers plus six colours including a striking purple on lime green, and a black

with glitter that is perfect for a home cinema. The fabric of this design is a soft cut pile velvet weave from Italy

with a vintage fi nish. The flock wallpapers are finished in pink, gold, and mushroom in which Anna used a

longer pile flock adding a glimmering fiber optic quality and sparkle to the room.
